A primary goal of The William H. McGannon Foundation is to create, manage and build endowment funds to support charitable organizations and projects now and forever (in perpetuity). Most donations are therefore held as endowment capital, and grant amounts are controlled to protect the long-term value of the fund and the grants that will be derived therefrom in the future. In addition, we will also hold gifts for a period of not less than 10 years as part of our endowment capital.
Canada Revenue Agency requires that we receive your written direction to invest your donation on a long-term basis to build endowment funds. In the absence of your specific direction we are required to distribute, as grants, where it is receipted a minimum of 80% of such donation in the year received or in the following fiscal year.
Consequently we request that you fill out and sign the following application and mail it to us.

Catlin Canada donated $17,500 to the William H. McGannon Foundation to assist students entering the insurance/risk management field of study. The official cheque was presented at the annual Risk & Insurance Management Society (RIMS) Canada conference in Ottawa, Ont. The foundation has been active in raising funds since 2002, with the first scholarship being awarded in 2003. Last year, Catlin Canada donated $25,000 to the McGannon Foundation at the 2010 RIMS Canada Conference in Edmonton, Alta.

XL Insurance Company held a dinner on May 6, 2009 in Calgary for the Board of Directors of the McGannon Foundation and invited former students to whom we have awarded scholarships. Following the dinner, Graham Addington, Sales and Marketing VP for XL presented Bill McGannon with a cheque for $10,000 as part of their ongoing commitment to the Foundation. Fundraising Information
Several Canadian RIMS chapters have been using their annual Golf Tournaments as fundraisers for the Foundation and other charities. SARIMS and ORIMS have made substantial contributions to the Foundation over the past number of years though this method. If any other chapter or organization wishes to raise funds in this manner we would be more than happy to assist with the event organization.
