George has over 35 years of risk management and general insurance experience. As Senior Manager, Risk Management & Insurance in the Treasury Division of EPCOR Utilities Inc., he is responsible for the corporation's insurance risk management programs. EPCOR is a $3 Billion municipally owned utility with operations in 4 Canadian provinces and 7 U.S States. Operations include generation of electricity, electrical distribution and transmission, treatment of water and wastewater, and retailing of energy services.
Prior to joining EPCOR he spent 5 years as a risk management consultant with Aon Reed Stenhouse designing risk management programs for urban and rural municipalities. Prior to this, he spent 7 years in risk management in the telecommunications industry. He was Risk Manager for Edmonton Telephones Corporation, and Senior Risk Analyst for AGT Limited (now Telus corporation) and NovAtel Communications.
George has achieved several professional designations including Certified Risk Management (C.R.M.) and Fellow Chartered Insurance Professional (F.C.I.P.). He has been active in risk management industry organizations serving on the Board of Directors of both the Northern and Southern Alberta Chapters of the Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) including 2 terms as President of the Northern Alberta Chapter. He has also served as a member of the RIMS Canada Council and predecessor organizations.
A graduate of the University of Saskatchewan with a Bachelor of Arts in Mathematics, George started his career with a major Canadian insurance company where he held numerous underwriting, reinsurance, and account representative positions.
